ProSensor MAX: choose the mode that fits your wall

Franklin Sensors' ProSensor MAX has 13 sensors, 35 LEDs, a bubble level and a green center indicator. Its two scanning modes are the main feature to consider when comparing it with a simpler stud finder. Manufacturer information

Oliver has researched the manufacturer's information and instructions. We have not tested this tool.

Start with your wall construction

The manufacturer describes Mode 1 for single-layer drywall and Mode 2 for thicker, layered surfaces. Establish what covers the framing before choosing a tool. If you do not know the construction, ask someone familiar with the building rather than assuming it is ordinary drywall.

The official instructions qualify the headline depth: the lath-and-plaster section gives a maximum of up to 2.5 inches, with 1.75 inches for wood studs. Mode 2 may display only the densest or closest object when several are present. Read the MAX instructions

Understand the limits

Density readings do not identify object type and can miss hidden objects. A center indication does not make a drilling point safe. Metal mesh, moisture, foil-backed insulation and metallic wallpaper can interfere. Detection through flooring, roofing, complex tile and exterior materials is not guaranteed.

Read the complete operating and safety instructions before use, including the manufacturer's utility precautions. For an uncertain job, seek qualified help before penetrating the surface.
