This guide covers the yellow, standalone Franklin Sensors ProSensor M210, Amazon ASIN B0917VXLDK. It is based on the manufacturer's published information and manual. We have not tested it ourselves.
Why this one deserves a look
The M210 uses 13 sensors and a 21-light display to show the width of a detected stud, including its edges and center. Franklin Sensors specifies detection to a maximum of 1.7 inches, with no user calibration step. A bubble level, pencil holder, and live-wire warning meter round out the design. These are manufacturer specifications; they do not promise the same result in every wall. Manufacturer's M210 page
For projects such as planning shelf brackets, curtain supports, or wall-mounted storage, that wider display may help you map likely stud positions before choosing fixings. This is our assessment of the design. The tool does not determine the load your wall or mounting hardware can carry.
Read the wall carefully
Scan a dry surface, holding only the handle and keeping the button pressed. Recheck readings vertically; for live-wire detection, slowly repeat passes in both directions. It measures density differences, so a light can indicate something other than a stud, and hidden objects can be missed. Texture, metal mesh, foil insulation, and metallic wallpaper can interfere. Detection through tile or unusually thick plaster is uncertain. A quiet wire meter does not establish that drilling is safe. Read the full instructions and shut off electricity, gas, and water before penetrating the wall. Operating and safety manual
Before you choose
It uses two AA batteries. Avoid mixing battery ages or types. Rechargeable compatibility is unclear in the manual: troubleshooting lists rechargeables as a possible cause of no lights. Confirm suitable batteries and the exact variant before ordering. The manufacturer also limits its green center-light description to certain models. Manual, manufacturer's model note
